Archimedes' Principle (Displacement)
An irregular object that is denser than water will sink. When fully submerged, it displaces a volume of water exactly equal to its own volume.
1. Read the initial water level (V₁), ensuring your eye is level with the bottom of the meniscus.
2. Gently lower the object to avoid splashing.
3. Read the new water level (V₂).
Volume = V₂ - V₁
Advanced Displacement (Floating Objects)
Objects like cork float, meaning they do not displace their full volume. We must use a heavy metal sinker to force it under water.
1. Submerge ONLY the heavy sinker. Record this volume (V₁).
2. Tie the cork to the sinker and submerge BOTH. Record the total volume (V₂).
Cork Volume = V₂ - V₁
